How the Value Scanner Works

Point, scan, decide — the scanner reads condition, matches it to real market prices, and tells you what the book is worth doing next.

Photo-Based Scanning

No barcode scanner or special hardware. The "scan" is an AI photo analysis — just snap your comic with any phone camera.

Condition Detection

The scanner detects 50+ condition factors — creases, spine stress, corners, color, centering — to assign an accurate grade.

Raw and Slabbed Value

Your scanned grade is matched against recent sales to give you what the copy fetches ungraded and what it fetches slabbed — with the CGC fee taken out of the gap.

Key Issue Recognition

The scanner flags first appearances and key books that command premium prices.

Scan Before You Pay

Dealer bins, estate-sale boxes, your own shelves — see whether the asking price leaves anything on the table once condition is priced in.

Save Every Scan

Scanned comics are saved to your collection with grade and value so you can track your whole library.

Collectors & investors

Will this book pay for its own submission?

CGC is $27–45 a book plus handling and shipping both ways. Find out which of your comics clear that bar — and which ones never will — before the box goes out.

Value Scanner FAQ

Does the comic book value scanner need special hardware?

No. ComicMintAI is a photo-based scanner — you simply take a picture with your phone. There is no barcode wand, no dedicated scanner device, and no app to install.

How does the scanner estimate value?

It first scans your comic's condition to assign a grade, then matches that grade against recent comparable sales from major marketplaces to estimate market value.

Can I scan comics while bagged and boarded?

For the most accurate scan, remove the bag and board to avoid glare and distortion. The scanner can still work through plastic, but a clean photo yields the best grade and value.

What does the scanner give me beyond a value?

A condition grade band, the defects behind it, the value raw and slabbed, and the submission verdict — GO, NO-GO or PRESS FIRST — with the break-even grade the book would have to reach to repay a CGC submission.

How accurate is the scanned value?

Values come from real recent sales and typically land within 10-15% of realized prices. The grade arrives as a band, so the value comes back as a range too — condition moves price further than any other variable.

Scan It, Then Decide

Find out what the comic is worth raw, what it is worth slabbed, and which of the two you should be chasing.
